Semiotics
In todays lesson, we all learnt about semiotics. Semiotics is simply the study of signs and anything that may stand for something else.
- The actual definition of semiotics is: 'the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation'
Semiotics can be broken down into two key parts -
- Denotations - what we see when we look at an image (what is it?)
- Connotations - what we understand from this image (what are the meanings behind the picture?)
